Dj Concept zeigt mit diesem Chess Records-Mix auf, wie tief HipHop in afroamerikanischen Musiktraditionen wurzelt (auch inhaltlich deutlich wird das bei Bo Diddley's Gunslinger in dem er sich, ganz nach Manier eines Gangsterrappers, zum Revolverhelden stilisiert), was sich ja auch in der Besetzung (Mos Def als Chuck Berry, Beyonce als Etta James) des, übrigens wirklich sehenswerten, Films Cadillac Records wiederspiegelt.
Wer noch tiefer in die Materie eintauchen möchte, dem sei der Dokumentarfilm Godathers and Sons empfohlen, in dem sich Chuck D gemeinsam mit Common auf die Spuren des Chicago Blues' begibt.
